Amazon Product Image Requirements: What Every Seller Needs to Know

Amazon Product Image Requirements

If you’re planning to sell on Amazon, your product images can either drive clicks—or drive customers away. As someone who’s helped eCommerce sellers, especially jewelry brands, prepare images for Amazon, I know how strict and specific their guidelines can be.

Here’s a simple, no-fluff guide to help you understand what Amazon expects and how to make your product images meet those expectations.

Why Amazon Image Requirements Matter

Your product photo is the first thing shoppers see. If it doesn’t meet Amazon’s standards, your listing can be suppressed—or worse, removed. More importantly, the right image builds trust, boosts click-through rates, and helps convert casual browsers into loyal buyers.

According to Amazon Seller Central, “Images must accurately represent the product and show only the product that’s for sale.”

That’s why it’s important to know the exact rules before uploading any image.

Amazon Main Image Requirements (Must Follow)

These are non-negotiable. Your main product image (the first one customers see) must:

  • Show only the product being sold
  • Use a pure white background (RGB 255,255,255)
  • Be a professional photograph, not a drawing or mockup
  • Have no logos, watermarks, or text overlays
  • Show the product clearly, in focus, and with realistic colors
  • Be at least 1000 pixels on the longest side (to enable zoom)
  • Fill 85% or more of the image frame with the product

File formats accepted: JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF

What About Additional Images?

Amazon allows up to 9 images per listing. While the main image must follow strict rules, secondary images give you more freedom:

  • Show the product from different angles
  • Add lifestyle images (someone using or wearing the item)
  • Include size or dimension shots
  • Demonstrate product use or features
  • Show packaging if it’s important for the customer

Still, they should remain professional and not include misleading content.
